Underwriting

Meaning :

Underwriting refers to the process in which a bank, insurance company, or financial institution assesses risks before approving a loan, insurance policy, or  investment. It ensures that the lender or insurer is safeguarded against potential losses.

Example :
For example, when a bank evaluates your income, credit score, and documents before approving a home loan, this process is known as underwriting.

How to Understand :

Underwriting can be thought of as a safety check within the financial sector.
It answers important questions such as:
•Is the individual reliable?
•Can they repay the loan?
•Is the risk manageable?
Underwriters make decisions to approve, reject, or modify financial requests based on  their evaluations.

It ensures that only qualified individuals receive loans or insurance.
Underwriting plays a role in determining interest rates, premiums, and terms of loans  and insurance.
It contributes to the creation of a safe and stable financial environment.
